Martial arts transformed his confidence and discipline and now he’s teaching others how to do the same at Budo Martial Arts in Coconut Creek

Coconut Creek, Florida – For Charlie Vinch, martial arts was more than just a hobby—it was a path to personal growth and empowerment. At the age of 13, Vinch discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), which helped him overcome childhood challenges and instilled in him qualities such as confidence, discipline, and self-defense skills. Fast forward 25 years, and Vinch has transformed his passion into a thriving career, opening Budo Martial Arts, a new training facility in Coconut Creek, where he now helps others experience the life-changing benefits of martial arts.
Vinch recalls a time in his childhood when he struggled with bullying, a challenge that many young people can relate to. “As a kid, I got bullied, and I needed a way to become assertive and confident in myself,” he shared. It was during this period that he found martial arts, which gave him the tools to take control of his life. “It was so empowering because I was able to take control,” Vinch said, reflecting on how martial arts became a turning point in his personal development.
After building a successful martial arts studio in New Jersey, with over 150 students, Vinch and his family decided to seek a change of pace and relocated to Coral Springs in 2023. “People in Florida are more active than up North in general,” Vinch explained. “They ride bikes, go to gyms, and parents get their kids involved in sports.” This lifestyle change led him to open Budo Martial Arts, a studio that caters to both children and adults, offering classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.
At Budo Martial Arts, Vinch’s primary goal is to help students—especially young ones—develop not only physical strength but also essential life skills. “We teach children how to handle challenges and gain strength through struggles,” he said. Beyond teaching self-defense, Vinch believes martial arts can help children develop leadership skills, public speaking abilities, and resilience. “It’s not just about physical fitness,” he explained. “It’s about creating a whole new you, internally and externally.”
One of the aspects that sets Budo Martial Arts apart from other training facilities is the strong sense of community it fosters. “We are a community driven to be with other like-minded people that want the best for their children on the mat and off the mat,” Vinch said. This inclusive environment creates a space where students, whether beginners or more advanced, can feel supported and encouraged as they work towards their goals.
As the studio grows, Vinch remains focused on creating a positive and empowering space for his students. He emphasizes that martial arts is not just a sport; it’s a powerful tool for personal transformation. For Vinch, it’s about helping individuals tap into their inner strength, face challenges head-on, and emerge stronger both mentally and physically.
Budo Martial Arts is located at 5901 Lyons Road in Coconut Creek. The studio offers a variety of classes tailored to different skill levels and age groups, ensuring that everyone—from children to adults—can find a program suited to their needs. For more information on classes or to sign up, individuals can visit the studio’s website at budomartialartsfl.com or call 754-284-1540.
Through his work at Budo Martial Arts, Vinch is on a mission to continue the cycle of empowerment that martial arts has given him, offering others the opportunity to transform their lives just as he did.
