Man charged with public indecency after being caught masturbating near a gym in Coral Springs for the third time

Coral Springs, Florida – A Coral Springs man was arrested on March 3, 2025, near a women’s gym on Wiles Road after a woman reported seeing him masturbating in his car. The incident marked the third time Evans Metellus, 28, had been arrested for public indecency, and the police report outlines a tense sequence of events that led to his capture.
According to the woman, she had just finished a workout at Just Lift gym, an all-women’s fitness center located at 7776 Wiles Road, when she noticed a man in a white car parked nearby. As she approached her vehicle, she saw Metellus sitting in his car with the front passenger window rolled down, engaged in inappropriate activity. The woman immediately contacted the police around 10 a.m. to report the disturbing sight.
Officers responded promptly and located Metellus’s vehicle. Upon noticing the car, the responding officer initiated a traffic stop after seeing Metellus run a stop sign. However, Metellus did not pull over immediately. Instead, he drove away from the scene, turning onto Woodside Drive. Once he stopped, Metellus exited the car and failed to comply with the officer’s commands to return to his vehicle.
The situation escalated quickly when Metellus took a fighting stance and ignored further instructions from the officer. According to the report, Metellus even taunted the officer, telling him to “tighten up” as he continued to disobey commands. When the officer ordered him to the ground, Metellus refused and walked toward the front of the car. At this point, the officer drew his taser and again commanded Metellus to stop. However, Metellus ignored the warning, prompting the officer to use the taser.
After the officer deployed the taser, Metellus collapsed to the ground. Another officer quickly approached, turning him over and handcuffing him. Metellus was arrested on multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, obstructing an officer without violence, driving with a suspended license, disobeying a stop sign, illegally tinted windows, and exposure of a sexual organ.
This wasn’t Metellus’s first brush with the law regarding public indecency. He had previously been arrested for masturbating in public in April 2020 and January 2021. Furthermore, he was a suspect in a similar incident at the same gym in December 2023, though he had not yet been charged in that case.
After being medically cleared at Broward Health Coral Springs, Metellus was taken to the Broward County Jail. He was released shortly afterward after posting a $6,000 bond, according to court records. The ongoing investigation and Metellus’s criminal history have raised concerns in the local community about repeat offenses and the safety of public spaces.
This latest incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of public spaces and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior to authorities. Law enforcement continues to work on holding individuals accountable for actions that threaten public safety and well-being.
