Months of investigation lead to the arrest of Pompano Beach woman involved in theft at Coral Springs Publix

Coral Springs, Florida – A Pompano Beach woman was arrested earlier this month after months of investigation into a theft that occurred at a Publix supermarket in Coral Springs. The incident, which took place last October, involved a shopper who accidentally left her wallet at the customer service counter of the Publix located at 6270 W. Sample Road. The wallet contained $1,200 in cash, credit cards, and a foreign identification card.

Surveillance footage from the store quickly revealed that a woman had taken the wallet and left the premises. Authorities worked diligently to identify the suspect, who was later recognized as 59-year-old Marie Laguerre. According to the arrest report, investigators linked Laguerre to the crime after reviewing the footage, which included images of the suspect and her vehicle, a black Toyota pickup truck.

Further investigation revealed a key piece of evidence: the same truck was spotted at a nearby Marathon gas station. Surveillance footage from the gas station showed one of the stolen credit cards being used, confirming that the wallet had indeed been stolen. A subpoena to Discover Financial Services revealed that the card had been used, which further solidified the case against Laguerre.

The breakthrough in the case came when a deputy who had previously interacted with Laguerre positively identified her from the surveillance footage. With this confirmation, detectives issued a warrant for her arrest.

Laguerre was taken into custody on March 10, 2025, near her home. She was booked into the Broward County Jail and now faces a charge of Grand Theft. Her bond was set at $2,500.

The arrest marks the end of a months-long investigation into the theft, which left the victim without a significant amount of cash and personal items. Authorities hope that this case serves as a reminder of the importance of being vigilant and responsible when handling personal belongings in public spaces.
