Man with extensive criminal record arrested for alleged $500 shoplifting spree at Coral Springs Publix

Coral Springs, Florida – A man with a lengthy criminal history is back behind bars after allegedly shoplifting a wide range of items from a Publix store in Coral Springs. John Pete Campbell, 39, is accused of stealing over $500 worth of goods, including beer, detergent, clothing, and sandals, and attempting to make his escape by sitting at a nearby bus stop.

The incident occurred on March 30 at the Publix located at 6270 Sample Road. According to the arrest report, a store employee noticed Campbell leaving the store without paying for his items. Among the stolen merchandise were 13 cases of Red Bull, two packs of Modelo beer, a “cosmic unicorn” shirt, beachwear, and household goods. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be more than $500.

Following the theft, a store manager quickly alerted local authorities. The manager reported that the suspect, wearing a black shirt, had exited the store and was now sitting at a nearby bus stop. Police officers arrived at the scene and quickly detained Campbell, who was positively identified by a witness during a show-up.

Campbell, a convicted felon, has an extensive criminal record, with at least 27 felony charges and 30 misdemeanor charges to his name. According to the arrest report, he was also wanted in Martin County on a warrant for grand theft larceny. Given his criminal history, Campbell now faces a felony charge of retail theft over $300, a charge that is exacerbated by his previous theft conviction.

At the time of his arrest, Campbell was taken to the Broward County Jail, where he has been held without bond, according to court records. This latest incident adds to his long history of run-ins with the law, marking yet another chapter in the life of a career criminal.

The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by local law enforcement in tackling retail theft, particularly when dealing with repeat offenders. It also underscores the efforts of vigilant store employees who help ensure that such incidents are promptly reported and addressed. As Campbell now faces serious charges for this latest crime, the community can take comfort in knowing that one more repeat offender is off the streets—at least for now.
