Coral Springs 911 dispatcher Emilie Atchinson receives the prestigious 2025 Tom Gallagher Award for her exceptional role in a life-saving stabbing incident response

Coral Springs, Florida – A Coral Springs 911 dispatcher was recently honored for her exceptional performance during a high-stakes emergency response. Emilie Atchinson was one of only three dispatchers from across Broward County to receive the prestigious 2025 Tom Gallagher Award. The award, which recognizes dispatchers for their outstanding contributions to public safety, was presented to Atchinson by County Commissioner Michael Udine at the Broward County Commission meeting on April 1.

The Tom Gallagher Award is named in honor of a longtime county dispatcher who passed away suddenly in 2012. It celebrates individuals who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to saving lives in their roles as emergency dispatchers. Atchinson’s actions during a stabbing incident in Coral Springs earned her the recognition.

At the meeting, Commissioner Udine highlighted Atchinson’s quick thinking and professionalism in managing a complex and dangerous situation. “Emily Atchinson from the Coral Springs Emergency Communication Center showcased expertise in a high-stakes stabbing incident, coordinating multi-agency efforts and lifesaving air transport,” Udine stated. Her ability to effectively communicate with multiple agencies during the emergency was crucial in ensuring the victim received timely medical attention and air transport to a nearby hospital.
