Coral Springs City Commission shares important May updates including mental health support and community events

Coral Springs, Florida – As the city of Coral Springs steps into May, the Commission has shared a heartfelt message centered on unity, wellness, and celebration. With the month packed full of events and important recognitions, leaders are inviting residents of all ages and backgrounds to come together, celebrate one another, and reflect on the importance of mental well-being.
Recognizing that May is Mental Health Awareness Month, city officials are encouraging everyone to take a moment to check in on themselves and those around them. “You Are Not Alone!” the Commission emphasized in its message, urging residents in need to seek support. Those struggling with emotional or mental health issues are encouraged to dial 2-1-1 or text 898211 to connect with local help. For more urgent emotional support, residents can call 9-8-8 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
A key highlight this month will be the Mental Health Town Hall hosted by Mayor Scott Brook on Tuesday, May 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. inside the City Hall Commission Chambers. The event aims to open dialogue around mental health and bring more awareness to available resources. Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share ideas on improving mental wellness across the city.
Kicking off the month, the city is joining hands with the Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs and Parkland and the Coral Springs Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee to observe the National Day of Prayer. The interfaith gathering will take place on Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (2855 Coral Springs Drive). All residents, regardless of faith background, are welcome to participate in this reflective and unifying event.
May is also a time to shine a spotlight on local heroes in the classroom. In celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Week from May 6 to 9, the city has teamed up with nearby businesses to provide special deals for educators. This initiative is a token of gratitude to the teachers who continue to make a difference in the lives of students every day. Teachers are encouraged to treat themselves, take a break, and enjoy the perks offered throughout the week.
Community fun continues on Friday, May 9, with the return of the much-loved Bites-N-Sips event. From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Great Lawn at City Hall (9500 West Sample Road) will come alive with food trucks, drink stations, live music, and more. This family-friendly gathering is a great way to enjoy a night out with neighbors and discover some of the city’s tastiest bites.
For the city’s young thinkers and game lovers, the King of Springs Chess Tournament is happening on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coral Springs Charter School Gymnasium (3205 N University Drive). The event is free and open to students between the ages of 5 and 18. While entry is free, pre-registration is required for participants.
Later in the month, the community will gather to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 27, at 9 a.m. at Veterans Park (8601 Royal Palm Blvd), in partnership with the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs. All are welcome to attend this heartfelt tribute.
In addition to these events, the City Commission will hold its regular public meetings on Wednesday, May 7 at 9 a.m. and Wednesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. Residents are always welcome to attend and engage in the democratic process. Those unable to attend in person can watch the meetings on CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725, or AT&T U-Verse channel 99.
