City of Coral Springs to hold a town hall event addressing mental health issues with expert guidance and support

Coral Springs, Florida – The City of Coral Springs is hosting a free Mental Health Town Hall on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Commission Chambers. Located at 9500 West Sample Road, this important event is designed to foster open dialogue about mental health issues, offering both valuable insights and practical resources for the community.

The town hall will be led by Mayor Scott Brook and will tackle a variety of critical topics related to mental health, including anxiety, depression, youth mental health in the digital age, suicide prevention, and substance abuse. These subjects are of growing importance, especially as the National Institute of Mental Health reports that more than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness, which equates to about 59.3 million people, or roughly 23.1% of the adult population. Mental health issues range from mild to severe, affecting people across all walks of life.

• Mareo H. Hood, a representative from Broward County Public Schools
• Sean Khan, a clinician with over 25 years of experience working with first responders and military personnel

These experts bring a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to the conversation, aiming to help attendees better understand mental health challenges and how to navigate them in their personal lives or within their communities.

In addition to the panel discussion, representatives from the city’s Behavioral Health Access Program will be on hand to provide support and offer information on mental health resources available to residents. This is a great opportunity for attendees to learn about the different support systems in place and how to access them when needed.

The event is free and open to the public, reflecting Coral Springs’ commitment to supporting the mental well-being of its residents. It is an important step in raising awareness and removing the stigma often associated with mental health issues. By encouraging open conversations, the city hopes to empower individuals to seek help when they need it and to promote healthier communities overall.
