Construction work on Sample Road in Coral Springs is nearing completion, with final touches expected by mid-July
Coral Springs, Florida – After nearly a year of extensive work, the resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation project along Sample Road, stretching from Pompano Beach to Coral Springs, is almost complete. Local officials report that the project is on track to wrap up by mid-July, marking a significant milestone for both drivers and pedestrians in the area.
Christian Gonzalez, a community outreach specialist for the Florida Department of Transportation, confirmed that crews are still busy with final details. “The work is nearly finished, with only a few tasks remaining,” Gonzalez said. He noted that crews are working primarily at night to minimize disruptions during peak hours, installing thermoplastic pavement markings, traffic monitoring loops, new signage, and completing the final paving.
This major project covered key segments of Sample Road, including the stretch from University Drive to Belmont Boulevard and from west of Powerline Road to Military Trail. In total, officials estimate the cost of the entire project to be approximately $5.45 million, a significant investment aimed at enhancing the area’s infrastructure.
The improvements go far beyond just resurfacing the road. The project included much-needed drainage upgrades, which will help alleviate flooding issues during heavy rains. Additionally, substantial upgrades were made to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These updates involved improving existing crosswalks, curb ramps, and installing detectable warning surfaces for the visually impaired. New pedestrian signals and sidewalks have also been introduced, making the area more accessible and safer for those walking or biking.
Another key aspect of the project was the enhancement of road safety features. Crews worked on upgrading traffic signals and adding new lighting throughout the area. Abandoned driveways were removed, and intersections were improved to better handle traffic flow. These efforts are designed to enhance both the safety and the aesthetic appeal of the roadway.
As the project nears completion, residents and commuters are seeing the benefits of these upgrades. Gonzalez mentioned that while some minor work remains—such as the finalization of signal adjustments and addressing a list of punch-list items—the major infrastructure changes are already in place.
With the work set to conclude by mid-July, the Sample Road improvements will have a lasting impact on the local community. Residents can expect smoother, safer, and more efficient travel along this important roadway, with enhanced accessibility for pedestrians and a more visually appealing environment.
