Coral Springs School District implements ban on backpacks and bags for the last week of the school year

Coral Springs, Florida – In a move aimed at bolstering safety during the final days of the school year, Broward County Public Schools has announced a ban on backpacks and other bags at schools in Coral Springs and across the district. This policy will be enforced from Thursday, May 29, through Tuesday, June 3, as the district takes additional measures to protect students and staff.

The decision, outlined by district officials, comes as part of enhanced safety procedures typically implemented at the end of the academic year. While students are prohibited from bringing their usual backpacks, they are allowed to bring lunches, but only in standard lunchboxes. The district’s focus is on minimizing security concerns by restricting larger bags that could potentially hide prohibited items.

“As the school year ends, the district is prioritizing the safety of its students and staff by implementing additional safety measures during the final days of school,” said officials in a statement. This precautionary step aims to ensure that the school environment remains safe as students prepare for summer break.

School officials are advising families to plan accordingly for the change. While the new policy restricts backpacks, there have been no further alterations to the regular school schedule or daily operations. The district has emphasized the importance of adherence to these guidelines during the last week of school to help maintain a secure atmosphere on campus.

As the school year wraps up, Broward County Public Schools continues to prioritize the safety of all its students and staff members. By instituting these temporary measures, the district hopes to provide an extra layer of protection as students look forward to the upcoming summer break.
