Coral Springs celebrates Juneteenth 2026 with free event and comedy show
Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs is preparing for a lively and community-focused Juneteenth celebration in 2026, bringing together food, music, performances, and cultural reflection in a free public event designed to honor history while encouraging unity. City officials announced the plans on Friday, highlighting a mix of entertainment and education for residents of all ages.
The celebration will take place on Friday, June 19, at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. City leaders are promoting the event as a Juneteenth pre-party, offering an evening that blends cultural recognition with a festival-like atmosphere. Organizers say the goal is to create a welcoming space where the community can gather, learn, and enjoy shared experiences.
Festivities are set to begin at 5:30 p.m., when guests will be welcomed with small bites, live DJ music, and local performances. In addition to the entertainment, attendees will also have free access to museum exhibits, giving residents an opportunity to explore cultural and historical displays without charge.

The early portion of the event is expected to focus on community engagement and celebration, with music and performances setting the tone for the evening. City officials have emphasized that the program is designed to be accessible and inclusive, reflecting the broader meaning behind Juneteenth itself.
Later in the evening, the energy will shift to a major highlight of the event. At 8 p.m., comedian Rickey Smiley will take the stage for a featured performance. Known for his work as a comedian, actor, author, television host, and radio personality, Smiley’s appearance is expected to draw significant attention as part of the city’s celebration.
While general admission to the pre-party activities is free, tickets are required for the comedy performance. Residents interested in attending the show can purchase tickets through the official city website.
City Commissioner Joshua Simmons, who has played a key role in supporting Juneteenth programming in Coral Springs, emphasized the importance of the celebration and what it represents for the community. As the city’s first Black commissioner, Simmons has been a vocal advocate for recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the holiday.

“Coral Springs is committed to being a welcoming community for all, and events like this help bring people together through shared experiences, education, and appreciation for the stories that continue to shape our future,” Simmons said.
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The holiday has since become a national symbol of freedom, reflection, and progress.
Coral Springs officials say the event is intended not only as a celebration but also as a reminder of the importance of history and community connection. By combining entertainment with education, the city hopes to create an atmosphere that honors the past while bringing residents together in the present.
