Coral Springs collects school supplies for local children as residents are encouraged to donate before the July 29 deadline

Coral Springs, Florida – As summer continues with vacations, beach trips, and busy family schedules, Coral Springs officials are reminding residents that the new school year is quickly approaching and many local children will soon need supplies to start classes prepared.

The city’s annual Back to School Drive is currently collecting donations to help provide essential classroom items for children in the community. Residents have until July 29 to contribute, with the first day of school scheduled for Aug. 10.

Officials say the program is designed to support local families who may struggle with the cost of preparing for a new school year. For some households, purchasing notebooks, pencils, and other classroom necessities can create an additional financial challenge after a long summer of expenses.

Every donated item collected through the drive will go directly to children who live in Coral Springs.

The requested supplies include many of the basic items students use throughout the school year. Suggested donations include markers, crayons, pencils, pens, composition books, scissors, erasers, highlighters, folders, glue sticks, binders, and loose-leaf paper.

The city is also accepting additional classroom necessities such as flash drives, index cards, rulers, pencil pouches, tissues, hand soap, and Ziploc bags.

All donated supplies must be new to ensure students receive items that are ready for classroom use.

Residents who want to help can drop off donations at several locations throughout the city. Collection boxes are available at City Hall, the Aquatic Complex, the Tennis Center, the Coral Springs Gymnasium, the Senior Center at Sartory Hall, and the Coral Springs Police Station.

The available drop-off locations include the City Hall lobby at 9500 West Sample Road, the Aquatic Complex at 12441 Royal Palm Boulevard, the Tennis Center at 2575 Sportsplex Drive, the Coral Springs Gymnasium at 2501 Coral Springs Drive, the Senior Center at Sartory Hall at 10150 NW 29th St., and the Police Station lobby at 2801 Coral Springs Drive.

Officials are also reminding shoppers that Florida’s back-to-school sales tax holiday provides an opportunity to save money while helping students. The tax-free period runs from July 20 through Aug. 20, allowing residents to purchase eligible school supplies without paying sales tax and donate them to the drive.

The timing gives families and community members a chance to combine their own back-to-school shopping with an opportunity to support children who need additional assistance.

The Back to School Drive is organized through the city’s Volunteer Services department, which is available to answer questions and provide information about the donation effort.

After the July 29 collection deadline, city officials will organize the donated supplies and make sure they reach local children before the start of classes on Aug. 10.

Organizers say the effort depends on the generosity of community members who are willing to give a small contribution that can make a significant difference for students entering the new school year.

With the first day of school approaching, Coral Springs officials are encouraging residents to take part and help ensure local children have the tools they need to begin the year with confidence.
