J.P. Taravella wrestler Arheanna Bryan earns national recognition with championship victory at Fargo Beach Championship
Coral Sprigs, Florida – J.P. Taravella High School wrestler Arheanna Bryan continues to build an impressive reputation on the national wrestling stage after earning a first-place finish at the Fargo Beach Championship in North Dakota.
Bryan, one of the top female wrestlers in the school’s history, won the 190-pound division at the unique beach wrestling competition after putting together six victories against a strong field of competitors. The event was held on the beach volleyball courts at North Dakota State University and featured around 200 female wrestlers from across the country.
Unlike traditional wrestling matches held on mats, the beach championship challenged athletes to compete on sand. Wrestlers scored points by taking their opponents down onto the surface, with the first competitor to reach three points declared the winner.
Although the event was designed as a fun and different way to compete, the level of competition quickly became serious as athletes battled for every point.
“It was intended to be a fun event, but the girls got very competitive about it, and Arheanna won,” said her coach, Michael Bazos.
Bryan’s success continued during the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals, one of the most respected youth wrestling competitions in the country. The tournament was held July 16-18 at the Fargodome in North Dakota and brought together some of the nation’s strongest young wrestlers.
Competing in freestyle wrestling, Bryan finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and advanced to the round of 16. The achievement was especially notable because the event represented only her second freestyle wrestling tournament.
Bazos said the goal was to measure Bryan’s skills against elite competition, and the results showed that she could compete at a high level.
“We wanted to see how she would do against some of the best competition in the nation, and she did very well and exceeded expectations. This was only her second freestyle wrestling tournament,” said Bazos.
The performance added another accomplishment to Bryan’s growing list of achievements. She is currently ranked as the No. 1 female wrestler in Florida at the 190-pound weight class, according to Bazos. Her success has also attracted attention from colleges, with Bryan receiving wrestling scholarship offers.
Following her strong showing in North Dakota, Bryan is expected to continue challenging herself against some of the best wrestlers in the country. One possible next step is the Super 32 Challenge, scheduled for September in Greensboro, North Carolina. The tournament is considered one of the most competitive wrestling events in the nation and regularly features top athletes from across the United States.
After the fall competition, Bryan will turn her attention toward preparing for the upcoming high school wrestling season at J.P. Taravella.
With her recent national success, continued improvement in freestyle wrestling and recognition from college programs, Bryan is becoming a standout name in women’s wrestling. Her achievements are also helping bring more attention to the growth of girls’ wrestling at the high school level.
