J.P. Taravella track and field athletes earn top finishes at national competition
Coral Springs, Florid – J.P. Taravella High School track and field athletes continued their busy summer schedule by competing against some of the nation’s top young athletes at the AAU Club National Championships in Jacksonville.
A group of talented Trojans traveled to the University of North Florida to take part in the major competition, where athletes from across the country competed in a variety of track and field events. Several J.P. Taravella athletes delivered impressive performances and earned top finishes.
On the girls’ team, Patricia Costa recorded a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, showing strong speed and technique in the event. Samira Belizaire also reached the podium, earning third place in the triple jump.
Other female athletes had successful outings as well. Olivia Noel finished sixth in the long jump, while Rayelle Languedoc placed third in both the shot put and discus events.

The boys’ team also represented J.P. Taravella well during the national competition. JahRee Pierre had a standout performance, earning second place in the 800-meter run and third place in the 1500-meter run. Jamal Elliott finished fifth in the 200 meters, while Scardy Fils earned seventh place in the 1500-meter run, according to Taravella coach Dawn Spann.
The competition provided the athletes with valuable experience and an opportunity to test their skills against competitors from different areas of the country. For the Trojans, the event was another important step in their continued development during the summer season.
“This was a big meet for our team, and we did well,” Spann said, adding that they will start cross-country practice in late July, and their season will open in August.

With the track and field season behind them, many athletes will now shift their focus toward the upcoming cross-country schedule. Coaches and athletes are preparing to continue their training as the new season approaches.
The strong results at the AAU Club National Championships highlight the dedication and hard work of J.P. Taravella’s track and field athletes. Their performances in Jacksonville provided a positive finish to the summer competition period and set the stage for future success.
