Droopy the playful bulldog mix and Stella the affectionate calico search for forever families at Broward Animal Care
Broward County, Florida – Two shelter pets with very different personalities are waiting for the chance to become part of a forever family. Broward County Animal Care is highlighting Droopy, a playful American bulldog mix, and Stella, an affectionate calico cat, as they continue their search for permanent homes.
Both animals are available for adoption with all adoption fees waived. Families interested in bringing either pet home will only need to pay the required $25 Broward County pet registration fee.
Droopy, a 4-year-old neutered American bulldog mix weighing 56 pounds, first arrived at the shelter in April after being found as a frightened stray in North Lauderdale. When he came in, staff said he was nervous and unsure of his surroundings. However, after spending time with shelter workers and volunteers, Droopy has shown a much more relaxed and friendly side.
Today, shelter staff describe him as a sweet and playful dog who enjoys being around people. Outside of his kennel, Droopy loves having space to move around and would happily spend time in a yard playing fetch with his future family.
The bulldog mix also knows how to sit on command and is highly motivated by treats, making him a good candidate for continued training and bonding with his new owners.

Droopy has also had positive experiences with both children and other dogs. During a Broward Buddies outing, he interacted well with elementary school-aged children. Shelter officials also said he has successfully socialized with other dogs during playgroups at the facility.
Animal Care staff believe Droopy’s friendly personality and easygoing nature could make him a wonderful companion for many different households. After more than three months at the shelter, he is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and ready for same-day adoption.
While Droopy enjoys outdoor play and attention from people, another shelter resident, Stella, is waiting for a quieter opportunity to shine.
Stella is a 1-year, 8-month-old spayed domestic shorthair calico weighing 10 pounds. She arrived at Broward County Animal Care as a stray in May and was adopted soon afterward. However, she was returned about a month later after having difficulty adjusting to a home with another cat.
Despite that challenge, shelter staff say Stella remains a loving and affectionate cat who enjoys human attention. She likes being petted, playing with toys, using her scratching post, and rolling around in catnip.

Because of her previous experience, staff believe Stella would likely do best in a home where she can be the only cat and receive plenty of affection and attention from her family.
Like Droopy, Stella is already prepared to start her next chapter. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to join a new household.
Broward County Animal Care continues to encourage residents looking for a new companion to consider adoption and help give shelter animals a second chance. The shelter is located at 2400 S.W. 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale and is open every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
