Coral Springs Sportsplex renderings reveal plans for 12 courts, renovated pools, and a major community event space ahead of city vote
Coral Springs, Florida – New details about the proposed Coral Springs Sportsplex project are emerging as city officials prepare to vote on the next step in the development of the major recreational facility.
Renderings released Monday show a large sports and community complex planned near Royal Palm Boulevard that would include 12 basketball courts, improvements to the existing aquatic facilities, and a flexible event space designed for a variety of uses.
The Coral Springs City Commission is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Coral Springs City Hall, where commissioners are expected to vote on a proposed $1.2 million contract with PBK Architects Florida. The firm was ranked first among six finalists by the city’s evaluation committee in June.
The contract would cover the concept and schematic design phases of the project. While the design work represents an early stage of development, the overall construction cost of the Sportsplex could reach up to $100 million.
The architectural renderings from PBK, obtained by TAPInto Coral Springs, show a proposed 205,000-square-foot building located next to Coral Glades High School. The facility is designed around a major indoor court area that would support youth sports, tournaments, and other community activities.
According to the plans, the 12 courts would be divided into two sections — one area containing eight courts and another containing four courts. The smaller four-court section could be transformed into a center-court arena for special events, with seating added on three sides to accommodate championship games and larger competitions.
The proposal also includes improvements to the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex. Rather than removing the current outdoor pools, the plans call for renovating the existing facilities to improve their condition and continue serving the community.
Another major feature of the project is a separate flexible event venue located next to the courts. The space would be designed to host a range of activities, including concerts, banquets, and trade shows. Retractable walls would allow the event area to operate separately from the gymnasium when needed.
City officials have emphasized that funding for the design contract would come from the city’s capital budget and would not require a tax increase.
The project’s design selection process began earlier this year when 15 firms submitted proposals for the work in April. Six companies advanced to presentations before the evaluation committee, which ultimately selected PBK Architects Florida as the top-ranked firm following the June presentations.
While the renderings provide a first look at what the future Sportsplex could include, no construction date has been announced. Additional decisions and planning steps will be required before the project moves toward construction.
The Wednesday commission meeting is open to the public and will take place at Coral Springs City Hall. Residents interested in the future of the Sportsplex project will have an opportunity to follow the discussion and hear more about the proposed facility.
