While walking her dog in St. Lucie County, elderly woman was attacked and killed by alligator

On Monday, an alligator killed an 85-year-old Florida woman who was walking her dog.

Near Fort Pierce in St. Lucie County, near Spanish Lakes Fairways, a community for people over 55, the fatal fight happened just after noon.

Residents said that the woman was walking her dog when an alligator grabbed it. She died when she tried to get the dog away from the alligator.

Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the woman who died was 85 years old. Her name was not made public.

Sheriff Ken Mascara of St. Lucie County said the alligator was about 11 feet long.

A trapper was called and was able to catch the alligator and take it away from the neighborhood.
