Two suspects taken into custody in connection with last month’s shooting on Interstate 95

In a press conference held on Wednesday, authorities announced that two men had been taken into custody in connection with a shooting that occurred on February 2nd on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach.

The shooting resulted in two individuals sustaining injuries. Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Miranda Grossman stated that the incident occurred at approximately 3:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway near Sample Road.

Responders, including deputies, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers, were dispatched to the scene.

The male victim was transported to Broward Health North for medical treatment, while his female passenger was also hospitalized. The severity of their injuries has not been disclosed. According to detectives, the two victims were driving a 2020 Tesla Performance Model Y, and as they were entering the southbound lanes of I-95 from Sample Road, a light-colored Audi pulled up next to them, and the suspects inside fired multiple shots at the victims.

The suspects then fled the scene, heading southbound. Zion Horne, 23, of Miramar, was identified as the shooter, while Bakari Dixson, 21, of Miramar, was identified as the driver of the vehicle. On Monday, both suspects were taken into custody by BSO’s SWAT team at a home in Miramar.

Inside the house, police found a stolen gun. The suspects were charged with a number of crimes, including attempted first-degree murder, firing a gun from a moving vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Currently, the motive behind the shooting has not been revealed. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be made available as they become known.
