Broward County luxury car theft ring leader arrested after a two-year investigation

Broward County, Florida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office has taken into custody an individual believed to be at the helm of a substantial stolen luxury car syndicate in Broward County.

Clint Augustin-Cox was apprehended last Thursday, marking the culmination of an investigation that spanned almost two years.

At 35 years of age, Mr. Augustin-Cox is alleged to have played a pivotal role, acting as the primary liaison for transactions involving the acquisition and vending of stolen high-end automobiles. This encompassed dealings with both the individuals involved in the illicit extraction of the vehicles and potential purchasers, as per the sheriff’s detectives.

Records from the deputies indicate that since September 2021, transactions orchestrated by Augustin-Cox involved several high-value vehicles, including a Bentley SUV, a BMW X6 SUV, a Mercedes GT63 sedan, and a Mercedes G550 wagon.

Further insights from the investigation illuminated that Mr. Augustin-Cox employed juveniles to execute the thefts across multiple counties within South Florida, subsequently scouting for interested buyers.

The charges leveled against him are manifold, encompassing grand theft auto, trafficking in stolen assets, organized fraudulent activity, and the employment of a communication device to further criminal activity.

In light of these developments, detectives have proffered several protective measures for vehicle owners, advising them to:

• Ensure car doors remain locked. • Refrain from leaving car keys or fobs within vehicles. • Avoid leaving personal items of value inside cars. • Ensure that garage door openers are not left in vehicles.
