Two J.P. Taravella High Students shine at State Music Conference

Coral Springs, Florida – Special appreciation was given to two choir members from J.P. Taravella High School.

In Tampa from January 8–11, Benjamin Vela and Aubree Fogle gave performances at the Florida Music Education Association Professional Learning Conference.

The chorus’s director, Morgan Healey, said that making it to an all-state chorus is a noteworthy achievement. In addition to singing prepared passages of different songs, the pupils had to pass a written and sight-reading exam.

Coral Springs resident Vela, 17, a senior, thought the trip was fantastic. He spent the weekend in intense rehearsals and was selected for the reading chorus. He loved working with gifted musicians and started his choir career in third grade with the Florida Singing Sons. He remarked, “We had a great director, and it was a wonderful experience.”

Fifteen-year-old Coral Springs sophomore Fogle enjoyed singing with committed musicians. She participated in lengthy and rigorous rehearsals before a performance, earning her a spot in the all-girls chorus. present were a lot of talented vocalists present, and it was a great experience. “We had a fantastic director,” Fogle remarked.

Healey says there are a lot of devoted people in the Taravella chorus. Five members attended the Florida American Choral Directors Association meeting in Orlando from October 24–26, 2024. They performed together after practice.

Among the five that took part in the FLACDA was 15-year-old Tamarac freshman Kailani Quintana. She relished the chance to practice and perform at a high level.

Healey remarked, “I hope they learned something to bring back to the classroom, and I am very proud of them for passing their audition.”

Teachers also have the chance to learn from and interact with professionals in their field through workshops tailored to their teaching.
