Therapy dog and school counselor give the community love and support

Coral Springs, Florida – Myra Brahms genuinely cares about other people, particularly kids.

Together, she and her therapy dog, Zoey, a little Goldendoodle, assist others who are struggling or in need of caring assistance.

Brahms, Zoey, and a counselor at Coral Springs’ Westchester Elementary School have made 400 community visits.

In a recent presentation from the Bonafide Therapy Dog Organization, former President Joe Biden presented the two with the Volunteer Gold Award, where she was presented with a diploma, gold pin, award ribbon, and a letter from Biden.

According to Brahms, many people have enjoyed Zoey’s visits to elderly homes, hospitals, and the Ronald McDonald House in Miami. “Zoey’s presence makes sick kids smile, boosting their self-esteem and helping them manage their anger and anxiety,” Brahms added.

Children may have a special reading experience at the Northwest Regional Library in Coral Springs thanks to Brahms and Zoey. “Reading to Zoey is about the joy and confidence it gives kids, not just about helping them become more literate,” she said.

Every classroom at Westchester benefits from the special educational experience that Zoey and Brahms provide, and Zoey’s visits foster compassion and respect for animals while also fostering a loving and nurturing environment.

Brahms claims that Zoey received the Distinguished Therapy Dog distinction from the American Kennel Club for visiting the Ronald McDonald House, hospitals, nursing homes, and libraries more than 400 times.
