Coral Springs man allegedly sent threatening texts to his brother during intense argument over family responsibilities

Coral Springs, Florida – A family argument in Coral Springs turned disturbing last month when a man allegedly threatened to kill his brother through a series of text messages, police said. The confrontation, which reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over caregiving responsibilities, has raised concerns about escalating tensions within the household.
According to a police report filed with the Coral Springs Police Department, the incident occurred on March 22. The 63-year-old suspect allegedly sent several threatening messages to his brother during an argument that began via text. The messages reportedly included multiple threats of violence, including one in which the suspect warned that he would “deal with him when he gets out again” if arrested.
The victim told officers he felt afraid and deeply unsettled by the texts, especially because he was alone at the time. The threats, he said, were taken seriously due to his brother’s past behavior and the nature of their ongoing family conflicts.
Despite the severity of the threats, the victim declined to press charges. He told officers that the timing of the dispute—close to the anniversary of a family member’s death—played a major role in his decision not to pursue legal action. “It’s an emotional time,” he reportedly said, adding that the last thing he wanted was to create more family turmoil during a sensitive period.
Police advised the victim that the nature of the messages could warrant criminal charges, but he instead signed a waiver of prosecution, effectively ending the investigation. While no charges were filed, the victim mentioned he was exploring the possibility of obtaining a restraining order against his brother to prevent future conflicts.
In the report, the victim also noted that his brother has exhibited signs of emotional instability in the past. However, there has been no formal diagnosis or documented history of mental illness to date.
The case highlights the emotional strain that caregiving responsibilities can place on families, especially when communication breaks down. While the situation appears to have de-escalated for now, authorities encourage anyone feeling threatened or unsafe to report incidents immediately and consider protective measures when necessary.
For now, Coral Springs Police are not taking further action, but they remain available should circumstances change or additional complaints arise.
