Convicted felon arrested after fleeing Coral Springs police with drugs hidden in groin and loaded gun found in car

Coral Springs, Florida – A midnight traffic stop in Coral Springs escalated into a dangerous chase and drug bust after a man with a history of felony convictions tried to flee police with illegal narcotics hidden in his groin and a loaded handgun within reach.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Sean Garcia of Oakland Park, was pulled over by police just after 12 a.m. on July 26 near 4800 Riverside Drive. Officers initially stopped Garcia for driving with an illegally tinted window—an infraction that quickly revealed much more serious criminal activity.

According to an arrest report, an officer began conducting a search and noticed a bulge near Garcia’s groin. As the officer attempted to undo Garcia’s belt buckle, Garcia suddenly broke free and sprinted across Riverside Drive.

Police chased him down and used a leg sweep to bring him to the ground. Despite being tackled, Garcia continued to resist arrest until officers managed to subdue him and open his belt. Inside, they found a black bag containing several clear plastic baggies. The bags held a mix of illegal substances, including suspected cocaine, fentanyl pills, and a red powdery material.

Field tests later confirmed the substances as 6.18 grams of fentanyl, 1.11 grams of cocaine, and 17.9 grams of marijuana. Officers also searched the vehicle Garcia had been driving and found a loaded firearm on the floorboard in front of the passenger seat. The gun was in an unzipped bag and not secured in a holster, making it easily accessible from the driver’s seat.

Police believe Garcia was in possession of the gun despite an initial claim by his fiancée, who was riding in the passenger seat. She first told officers that the gun belonged to her but later changed her story, stating Garcia was unaware of the weapon.

According to the report, she admitted to knowing about Garcia’s criminal background, which includes three prior felony convictions—making it illegal for him to possess any firearm or ammunition.

“Officers noted that she was aware of Garcia’s criminal history, which includes three prior felony convictions, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.”

The situation led to multiple charges against Garcia, who is now facing eight separate counts. These include armed trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cocaine, possession of cannabis, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, use or display of a firearm during the commission of a felony, obstruction without violence, and operating a vehicle with illegal window tint.
