Coral Springs moves forward with plans for a landmark $100 million Sportsplex expansion project

Coral Springs, Florida – The City of Coral Springs is taking another significant step toward transforming its Sportsplex campus, advancing plans for what could become one of the area’s largest recreational investments in years.

City officials are continuing work on the Sportsplex Optimization project, an initiative aimed at developing the vacant property located behind the Aquatics Complex on Sportsplex Drive. The long-term vision includes the construction of a modern indoor sports and recreation hub designed to meet the growing needs of residents and local athletic programs.

According to city information, the proposed facility would feature multiple sports courts, a gymnasium, an indoor track, spectator bleachers, and a fitness center. Plans also call for locker rooms and a variety of flexible multi-purpose spaces that could accommodate community events, programs, and recreational activities.

The project has steadily gained momentum over the past several months. Earlier, Coral Springs awarded a contract to Sports Facilities Development for Facility Optimization and Recreation Master Planning Services, laying the groundwork for the next phase of planning and design.

As the city prepares to move beyond the concept stage, the estimated price tag for the development has become clearer. City spokesperson Sayona Khandwalla said the project is currently expected to cost as much as $100 million, reflecting the scale and scope of the proposed expansion.

A key milestone came during a June 5 meeting, when the evaluation committee selected PBK Architects, Florida Inc., as the highest-ranked firm to provide architectural and engineering services for the project. The committee’s recommendation positions the company to potentially guide the design of the future sports complex.

The process is not yet complete, however. Khandwalla said the city’s purchasing division will now begin negotiating a contract with the selected firm. If both sides reach an agreement, the proposed contract would then be presented to the Coral Springs City Commission for consideration during a future public meeting.

The earliest that discussion could take place is June 17, 2026, giving commissioners and residents an opportunity to review the next stage of the ambitious project.

City officials note that evaluation committees are made up of staff members who independently examine and score contractor proposals. These committees are assembled on an as-needed basis depending on the specific Request for Proposal being considered.

If approved, the Sportsplex expansion would mark a major investment in Coral Springs’ recreational infrastructure, creating new opportunities for youth sports, fitness programming, and community gatherings while shaping the future of one of the city’s most active public spaces.
