Former Coral Springs soccer player Xander Fuller dies unexpectedly before beginning college

Coral Springs, Florida – The Coral Springs community is mourning the unexpected death of former youth soccer player Xander Fuller, a recent high school graduate who was preparing to begin college and pursue a degree in electrical engineering.

Fuller had recently completed one chapter of his life and was looking forward to the future when his life was suddenly cut short. Friends, teammates and members of the Coral Springs Youth Soccer community remembered him as a dedicated player who spent many years with the club.

Coral Springs Youth Soccer confirmed Fuller’s passing last week, honoring his time with the organization and recognizing the impact he had as a member of the soccer community.

According to a GoFundMe campaign created by Fuller’s family, he died unexpectedly in his sleep. Following his death, doctors determined that he had Brugada syndrome, a rare inherited heart rhythm disorder that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

Fuller’s mother, Althea Plummer, shared details about her son’s death through the fundraiser and said doctors believe a minor car crash the night before may have played a role in triggering changes that affected his heart.

“Our lives changed forever when we unexpectedly lost my oldest and only son, Xander,” she wrote on the fundraiser.

The family said they hope sharing Fuller’s story will help raise awareness about Brugada syndrome and encourage others to learn more about the condition. Because the disorder can sometimes go unnoticed, they hope greater awareness can help families recognize possible warning signs and seek medical attention when needed.

Brugada syndrome is a genetic condition that affects the heart’s electrical system and can cause dangerous irregular heart rhythms. In some cases, people may not know they have the condition until a serious medical event occurs.

In addition to raising awareness, the family created the GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral costs and other unexpected expenses following Fuller’s death. The fundraiser is intended to provide support as the family deals with the sudden loss.

As of Sunday, the campaign had collected more than $9,200 toward its $30,000 goal.

Fuller’s mother was not available Sunday to provide additional details about her son’s age or share more about his life, but the fundraiser and tributes from the soccer community highlighted the loss felt by those who knew him.

For many who followed his journey through youth soccer, Fuller represented a young person with plans, goals and a promising future ahead.
