Mother apologizes for killing her minor daughter after lengthy abuse, “intentional suffocation,” and setting the body on fire in an effort to get away with it; sentenced

According to court documents issued to the public earlier this month, the 31-year-old Kristie was sentenced to 30 years in prison for constant abuse and mistreatment for an extended period of time, ultimately resulting in her daughter’s death. During the court process, it was revealed that the mother then set the remains on fire in an effort to get away with what she did to the 3-year-old angel called Emma. Previously, her husband, Brandon, received a prison sentence for his involvement in the incidents.

The story about the little Emma started to unfold in 2019 when the local police department was called to respond at a softball field after someone reported human remains being found. In a press release, the police department said that authorities were unable to identify the remains because the body had been completely burned. Nearly a year later, it was confirmed that the human remains belonged to the little Ema. The investigation into the incident started immediately after Emma’s parents were arrested.

According to investigators, Emma was a victim of constant mistreatment by her parents, especially Kristie. The little girl had been forced to carry heavy weights, and she was abused. The little girl was denied food; she was starved and suffered from “intentional suffocation,” and her mother was reportedly repeatedly hitting her with objects such as a spatula and purse. Although Emma and her two siblings, who lived in the same house, needed medical attention, they never got it. Emma’s siblings were also subjected to excessive forced exercise and inappropriate physical discipline.

The mother had beaten her little daughter to death. She then decided to set the girl’s body on fire and destroy all the potential evidence against her. In April 2021, Kristie and Brandon were initially charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Kristie was charged with murder a month after the initial charges. She pleaded guilty in May to murder by abuse or neglect, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of abuse of a corpse. In addition to Kristie’s three-decade-long prison sentence, a judge ordered Haas to be on probation for abusing her other children.

According to The Associated Press, Kristie apologized at her sentencing hearing for “all the hurt that I inflicted and the pain that I caused,” adding, “I knew everything was wrong, and I was so messed up because of everything I did. I thought I could get away with it, to be honest.”

Brandon was sentenced to four years and one month in prison after he previously pleaded guilty to one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child and three misdemeanor counts of the same charge.
