Boca Raton police seek information on deadly hit and run involving pedestrian

Boca Raton, Florida – Boca Raton police are seeking assistance to solve a deadly hit-and-run that occurred early Thursday morning. The Boca Raton Police Department has made significant headway in the investigation, identifying a white 2016–2019 Ford Explorer as the vehicle of interest linked to the unfortunate incident.

The initial discovery was made shortly after 3 a.m. along NW 40th Street, between Dixie Highway and NW 2nd Avenue. It was here that a 36-year-old pedestrian, later identified as Shane Matthews from Port Charlotte, was found in dire circumstances.

Despite the early stage of the investigation, the police faced challenges as they noted the absence of evidence or debris at the scene, which could have offered immediate clues to the vehicle involved. The method through which investigators pinpointed the Ford Explorer as a potential vehicle of interest remains undisclosed.

The Boca Raton Police Department is reaching out to the public for any information related to the Ford SUV or the crash. They have encouraged anyone who can shed light on this case to contact their traffic homicide detectives at 561-620-6227, hoping to bring closure to this unfortunate event and justice for Shane Matthews.
