Three lives lost in tragic plane crash near Glades Road and I-95 in Boca Raton as aircraft fails to return to airport

Boca Raton, Florida – A tragic small plane crash rocked the city of Boca Raton on Wednesday when an aircraft went down near the I-95 overpass at Glades Road, killing all three people on board, according to officials.

Authorities confirmed that the plane was attempting to return to Boca Raton Airport when it suddenly crashed, striking a car during its descent. The man inside the vehicle survived with non-life-threatening injuries, but the three passengers in the plane did not make it.

“Three people died after the small aircraft crashed while trying to return to the airport,” officials stated. “The man driving the car that was struck by the plane sustained injuries, but he is expected to recover.”

The crash scene quickly turned chaotic. Plumes of black smoke rose into the sky and were visible from the nearby I-95 highway. Firefighters rushed to the area and worked to extinguish the flames as drivers and pedestrians looked on in disbelief.

Debris from the aircraft scattered across a set of nearby railroad tracks, forcing Tri-Rail to suspend service in the affected area. Tri-Rail responded by setting up a bus connection between the Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton stations, though they also warned commuters to consider other transportation options.

“Due to the crash, Tri-Rail has temporarily suspended operations through Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach,” officials said. “We have added bus bridges, but delays are expected.”

The crash also led to major traffic disruptions. Police shut down N. Military Trail between NW 19th Street and Butts Road, and Glades Road was closed in both directions at the I-95 overpass to allow emergency crews and investigators full access to the site.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the state fire marshal’s office have begun looking into what caused the crash, but details remain limited for now.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the lives lost in this unexpected and devastating event.
