Deputies, Good Samaritans join together to save potential I-75 bridge jumper

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Dramatic video captures the moments a group of Good Samaritans and Collier County deputies came together to save the life of a woman in danger.

Collier County Sheriff deputies responded to the Santa Barbara Boulevard overpass, after a report of a woman standing outside the protective fencing, around 6:45pm on Tuesday. The woman was threatening to jump to the traffic below.

A deputy and civilian were able to reach through the fence and hold the woman, who repeatedly attempted to break free.

A box truck heading southbound saw the scene and was able to park his vehicle below the woman. Deputies and more civilians were able to reach the top of the truck and help the woman make a safe fall from the bridge.

“This was excellent work by our deputies, who will use any means necessary to protect and save lives, including putting themselves in harm’s way,” sai Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk. “This was a tremendous display of teamwork between law enforcement and civilians, who worked together to save a woman in crisis.”

The victim was then transported to NCH Downtown Baker Hospital for evaluation.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office wanted to remind anyone having suicidal thoughts, or thoughts of harming yourself, you can call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988.
