Florida officers hospitalized following narcotics exposure while arresting a shoplifter

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two officers from the Gainesville Police Department were brought to the hospital after they were found to have been exposed to narcotics.

Reports say that when the officers tried to arrest a suspect on Sunday, they were probably exposed to drugs.

Officers are said to have rushed to the Wawa store located on West University Avenue after an employee called to report that someone was shoplifting from the store. Responding officers detained the 33-year-old suspect.

The suspect reportedly possessed a white substance that sent the two police officers to the hospital.

The latest information indicates the officers are expected to be OK.
