Broward County School Board fired Superintendent Cartwright with a 5-4 vote

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – The Broward County School Board has voted 5-4 to remove Dr. Vickie Cartwright’s position as superintendent.

During the public meeting, the five appointees of Governor Ron DeSantis swiftly pushed her out.

The vote that took place on Monday night came at the conclusion of a lengthy meeting that had been going on before the newly elected board was scheduled to take over later in November.

Despite an earlier decision made by the board on October 25 to give Cartwright an additional 90 days to provide a plan in order to reassess her performance, the vote went forward.

Daniel Foganholi was the one who first brought forward the motion. The motion was approved with votes from the chair, Torey Alston, as well as members Ryan Reiter, Kevin Tynan, and Manuel Serrano.

All four elected members, Lori Alhadeff, Debra Hixon, Sarah Leonardi, and Nora Rupert, voted in favor of Cartwright.
