Riviera Beach police officers hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla.  — A collision involving three automobiles resulted in the injury of a Riviera Beach police officer, who was then taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The officer had stopped her car on the Jerry Thomas Memorial Bridge, which is often referred to as the Sky Bridge, in order to assist a driver who had been trapped on the bridge.

According to Riviera Beach Police Department Spokesperson Joshua Lewis, the officer was hurt when a third car hit the disabled car from behind, hurting the officer.

According to Lewis, she was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center after suffering a leg fracture and had to be airlifted there.

According to Lewis, the cop went in for surgery. At this point, we do not know what her condition is.

Investigators closed Sky Bridge for a short time while they gathered evidence.

No more information was immediately available.
